About Us

We were founded in 1932 and are the leading UK weaver of velvets for the soft furnishings, upholstery and contract markets. We have more than 70 years of experience in velvet production and are confident that we can meet your requirements from our comprehensive range of velvet fabrics.
The foundations for the present company, British Velvets Ltd, were established in Accrington, Lancashire, in 1932. In 1955 the business moved to the present premises in Padiham - an area with a rich history of cotton textile fabric weaving and many of our present day skills have their roots in a tradition of involvement in the textile industry which reach back to the earliest days of the Industrial Revolution.
British Velvets Ltd, has since its establishment, produced almost all types of furnishing pile fabrics, more recently concentrating on curtain and upholstery cotton velvets. This specialist field was introduced into Holland from across the border with Germany during the early 1920’s and then to the UK by the founders of our business.
The company continues to maintain the standards and principles of high quality production in the manufacture of furnishing velvets, which have been handed down through the generations, whilst adding a modern touch to this time honoured fabric.

At British Velvets we support a wide stock range of velvets to cover almost every home and contract furnishings need.
Domestic Many different velvet ranges, all supported from stock, and in widths of 120cm and 140cm. Using Cotton, Linen, Lyocel, Open End and Ring Spun yarns to create a variety of finished appearances to cover every taste. The use of different yarns and finishes gives both traditional and modern looks.
Flame Retardant Velvet Stock supported ranges to meet : # BS5867 Pt 2 1980 Type B # BS5867 Pt 2 1980 Type A, B and C # M1 # Trevira
For special orders we are also able to meet both German and Dutch standards. Dyeing in large batch sizes up to 1000 metres per colour for perfect colour continuity.
Widths available 120cm, 140cm, 150cm, 180 cm. Weight range 365g/mt² up to 580g/mt².
